In 1880, Jacob S. Wetmore, a director of the Houston and Great Northern Railroad, founded Wetmore, Texas. By 1894, the small town needed their own store for supplies. Mr. Wetmore took charge and opened the small towns’ first General Store and Café. “Wetmore Smokehouse & Saloon” is located in the same building he built in 1894.

While the town was thriving as a popular railroad stop, the Wetmore Store and Café became widely known adding to the growth of the town. People knew they could count on a good home cooked meal to be waiting for them when they arrived at “The Wetmore Store”.

In its’ early years the store attracted musicians, along with some unsavory fellows. Stories have been told of many a card game that ended in someone being thrown out or a few bullets flying. Lucky for us that didn't last too long.

The Wetmore’s musical tradition is what ended up staying and continuing through the years. Legend has it that even Willie Nelson could be found here as a young man strumming away with his many friends.

Our goal at the “Wetmore Smokehouse & Saloon” is to bring you great food, fine spirits and continue our musical heritage by bringing you South Texas Live Bands and performers. Our doors will always be open for you to invite your friends and family.
